A Weekend of Basketball

2.14.10
Two boys, one Dad Coach, one weekend, five basketball games = one tired Mom

We only have 2 kids, how can we have FIVE basketball games in one weekend??? Well each kid plays on 2 teams ( St. Brigid and DYA) and we have one game to make up that got snowed out. So... that makes for one BUSY weekend when you throw in the St. Brigid Volunteer Dinner Dance and Valentine's Day!

Mac reads the opening prayer.

After the 6th grade St. Brigid game Friday night at St. Mary's in German Village, we planned a team outing to Planks for pizza. It was fun night!! Here are a couple pics of the boys table. Mac is in the back right in both pics doing his crazy hand gesture!
Lucas is on two teams as well, but his second grade teams are more developmental than competitive. They teach the boys skills and then they play three on three for 20 minutes.Lu going in for a layup.

Sixth Grade Student Led Conference

2.11.10
Each year the St. Brigid students lead a student-led conference for their parents where they reflect on their past quarter of effort and work they have produced. It is a tremendous tool for them to self evaluate and to grow from there. It is also an invaluable experience for us as parents to see and hear exactly what Mac has been doing this year. I love every minute of it!

Mac is showing us his "heart". In Math they constructed a paper heart using a ruler and a compass.Mommy and Mac take a break to smile for the camera.
Not sure what Mac thinks is so awful, but Mommy is constructing a midpoint of a line using a compass.
Mac is showing Daddy his Math e-portfolio.

The Sweet Moments in Life

2.10.10
This is just one of those sweet moments in life that I want to capture and remember when these two are at each others throats and telling each other how much they hate each other...

During Catholic Schools week the 6th, 7th, and 8th grades had a visit from an Army guy. Before he left he passed out theses books and asked the kids to read the books to a younger sibling. The Hog Mollies and the Rocky Relay Race was the name of the book. The message was: As long as you do your best you are always a winner.

In House Artist'

2.10.10
Here are a couple of Mac's most recent art projects.

The first is called Name Composition. You can't tell now, but this work started simply with Mac's name. Then he translated (or moved) the name all around the paper to create this design.

Mac's second work is this piece of cake... it actually opens and is a secret box.

SNOW, SNOW, and more SNOW

Saturday, February 6th, 2010
Our first real winter storm of the produced 14 inches of snow at our house in Dublin, Ohio!! The bad news is it was SATURDAY so no day off! Oh well- it was still beautiful, and cozy and FUN!! I LOVE it when it snows all day long!!!

A view from the back door.

The picnic table is almost buried!

It looks like there is frozen smoke coming out the chimney of our outdoor fireplace.

Lucas's second grade developmental basketball leagues started in January. He plays both on Saturdays. The first few pics are St. Brigid's league. The last two are his DYA league.

I Can See Clearly Now...

1.27.09
Today Mac picked up his first time ever glasses. We found out he has an astigmatism and some focus problems. He picked out his glasses on the first try. They are actually made by Nike. They do look great on him. Here are a few of the first pics of him with his new specs:

Marble Run

Grammy Margaret bought Mac and Lucas a buildable marble run for Christmas. Mac spent one whole afternoon engineering this fantastic structure! Here are some pics of the process:
